With the release earlier this week of the arcade puzzler Pharaoh's Gold, shareware developer Fernando Covett decided to make his first game Yexi - The Interstallar Adventure available to OS X users for free. The title is available on the game's website now and weighs in at 11.2MB.
In case you missed out hearing about this strategic space sim from 2002, Yexi takes obvious cues from the 'Star Trek' universe. Here's more about it from the game's site:
As a player, you can do some obvious tasks, as docking on starbases to refit your vessel and replenish main resources, and other not so obvious, such as orbiting sidereal objects, launching probes to gather the position of a cloaked vessel or being caught in the gravity well of a wormhole and wind up being sling-shot hundreds of light-years from home. For more on Yexi, or to download the full version for free, head over to the game's site. The requirements for the game are:
One of the unique features of this game is the use of the teletranporter to beam down away teams to seize planets, to rescue escape pods (yes, your crew abandons ship depending on the level of the life support system), and to transfer torpedoes, fuel, and cargo between vessels, planets, and starbases.
iMac G3 600 MHz, 128 RAM, Mac OS X 10.2 or higher, 1024 x 768 screen resolution, Quicktime. Also be sure to check out Pharaoh's Gold if you haven't done so already.
