Gamers interested in getting a little introduction to game development may be interested in a title known as Battle for Wesnoth. A current work-in-progress, Wesnoth is a turn-based RTS that runs on a variety of platforms, including Linux, OS X, Windows, and FreeBSD.

Battle for control of villages, using variety of units which have advantages and disadvantages in different types of terrains and against different types of attacks. Units gain experience and advance levels, and are carried over from one scenario to the next campaign.
The developers of Wesnoth welcome all interested contributors, including musicians, programmers, artists, and game testers. Contributors will also retain copyrights to any portions that they contribute.

Wesnoth recently received an update to version, adding the Knalagan Alliance to the mix. More information on this title, including downloads of the latest build, can be found at the official site or from MacGameFiles.
