While we all have had the opportunity to try out the Unreal Tournament 2004 Demo for a few days now, some lucky people over at GameSpy got the opportunity to play the full game for several hours at the Epic Games headquarters. Fortunately of us, they have been kind enough to share their experience in a three page hands-on preview article. The article is all about the multiplayer experience as they fragged out against other reporters and Epic staff. Testing all major game modes, including the resurrected Assault mode from the original Unreal Tournament. The old mode has gotten a brand new look, with new innovative levels, like AS-RobotFactory.
From the article:
The attackers start outside a robot manufacturing plant, armed with two Goliath tanks. Initially, the attackers need to reach a satellite uplink and eventually blast their way into the facility before moving on to the rest of their objectives. Problem #1: The outdoor area is protected by a series of user-controllable turrets, capable of quickly ripping through the tanks, and are extremely hard to destroy. Problem #2: A ginormous ion cannon sits near the entrance to the facility, capable of vaporizing a tank with one well-placed shot, along with anyone else within range. The cannon is armored to the point where it can withstand minutes of continual shelling, meaning many teams may never even see the inside of the facility. To read the full article, head over to GameSpy with help of the link provided below.
