Simon & Schuster To Sell Video Game Unit 9:40 AM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story
Simon & Schuster, the book publishing unit of media conglomerate Viacom, has begun the process of selling its video game division after deciding it wasn't a core business. Simon & Schuster a few years ago released several Mac titles include Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Fallen and Last Call. Here's more from the official PR: "We've entered into discussions with potential buyers for the assets of the interactive unit," said Adam Rothberg, a Simon & Schuster spokesman. "At the end of the day. we decided that it wasn't our core business ... and that the unit could benefit from the support of a dedicated software developer."Rothberg said two games were still in development and that a "core group" of employees was still at work. He declined to specify how many employees the interactive operation had other than to characterize it as a small unit. Simon & Schuster Interactive is the latest video game unit of a major media conglomerate to be put up for sale or otherwise disposed. Earlier this year, Fox sold its gaming unit, Fox Interactive, to Vivendi Universal Games.
