Tiger Woods Patch Coming

Aspyr Media's Glenda Adams, formerly of Westlake Interactive, dropped by the IMG forums last night with exciting news for fans of Aspy'rs recently published golfing game Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003. Glenda announced that a patch for the sports title is currently undergoing final tweaking, and is being prepped for a more extensive beta test: We're going to start sending the Tiger patch to more external people early next week, and then release it to the public if nothing is horribly broken.
I understand many people are impacted by the patch release, but it's not something we just magically wave our wand and make appear (even if I am a Good Witch). Debugging can be a frustrating process, in the Tiger case we are trying to fix some issues with PowerBooks that just won't pop up again. Bug reports for the game had started surfacing soon after the game's initial release earlier this year. Some users reported problems with Radeon graphics cards, and others ran into trouble playing the game on certain models of the 15" PowerBooks, while further problems seem to have surfaced with Apple's new G5 systems. As Glenda explained in a later post, bugs of these kinds can be extremely difficult for porters to track down and address:We had some reports of 15" PowerBooks just drawing white graphics when you ran the game- no textures or anything. I have a 15" PowerBook at work and couldn't get it to happen no matter what I tried, but the users that had problems couldn't play the game at all (not even slowly). So this was a pretty big bug for us to fix in patch 1.
These are the kinds of bugs that make it no fun to be a developer :( If they are ones you can repeat you are halfway to fixing them. But it's just horrible when you know it's happening out there among gamers and all the machines you try it on in testing don't show any problem :( Players of the game can look forward to having their performance issues dealt with soon by the upcoming patch.
