Lineage To Hit The Small Screen 7:06 AM | Jean-Luc Dinsdale | Comment on this story
Following yesterday's posting of our "retro" review of NCSoft MMORPG Lineage: The Blood Pledge, we, the good folks over here at your favorite Mac gaming website, just wanted to let you know that plans are in the works to turn the five-year-old game into an animated TV series. 3D animation house Cyper Entertainment Inc announced early Wednesday that they have an agreement with Anikino Inc. to produce a $5 million US, 13-part animated series based on the characters of the Lineage franchise. Originally created as a comic book by II-Sook Shin, the story's popularity soared after its publication in 1993, leading to the release of the online game in 1998. The game, which was ported to the Mac in early 2002, has been dubbed as the world's most succesful MMORPG, boasting over ten million players worldwide, with over 125,000 users online at any one time. Although no further details have been announced, producers Cyper Entertainment expect to handle pre-production, financing, and all distribution expenses for the series. Over on the gaming side, publishers NCSoft are busy with the game's sequel, Lineage II: The Chaotic Chronicle. The sequel is expected to be unleashed on the masses by the end of the year.
