CrystalSpace Named Project of the Month 11:15 AM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story
SourceForge.net, the open source developemnt web site, has named CrystalSpace its Project of the Month for the month of February. CrystalSpace is a free 3D game engine that runs on multiple platforms including MacOS X, Linux, and Windows. Jorrit Tyberghein began developing the engine back in 1997 and since then has garnered quite a following with over 600 people subscribing to its mailing list. Jorrit explains how he got started in the project: I started out of frustration :-) I saw Doom and then I saw Quake. And I couldn't understand how they managed to do that. So I started researching on the Internet, I guess you could say Crystal Space is born out of that research. On August 1997 the project was first published on the Internet. I started conceptual work about 8 months prior to that and started actually developing on Crystal Space around June of 1997. To learn more about this interesting game engine, head over to the SourceForge web site.
