Atari's Adventure Coming for Quake III 9:08 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story
Anyone who remembers the glory days of the Atari 2600, one of the first gaming consoles to ever hit the market, may be interested in an upcoming Quake III mod. Titled Quake III: Adventure, this mod is attempting to recreate a 3D version of the original 2D title Adventure, which older gaming fanatics will remember as being one of the first titles ever released for the console. Here's a clip from the official page detailing their plan: Re-create the entire map from the classic Atari 2600 game Adventure into a 3D environment using the 3D map making tool, QuArK. Once the map is completed, it will be made available for Deathmatch, however, work will continue on a Quake 3 mod to make it play exactly like the original Atari 2600 game. That includes making new models of the sword, dragons, enchanted chalice, bat, bridge, keys and the other objects from the game. The graphics themselves are rather unique, with 3D light-sourced polygons being used to flesh out what are otherwise pixellated versions of the original cast from Adventure. The dragons in particular are striking, and should rekindle plenty of nostalgia for those who remember the game.Though the mod is currently in development, there is a deathmatch map available for download. We've tested the map with the Mac version of Q3 and found no immediate problems. Those interested in more information, screenshots, or the demo map can find all at the Quake III: Adventure site.
