Mac Tenebrae Quake Beta Underway
6:00 AM | Andy Largent | Comment on this story
A helpful forum poster pointed out that Fruitz of Dojo is currently working on a Mac port of Tenebrae Quake, a modification to the original Quake source code which adds next-generation techniques such as per-pixel lighting and stencil shadows.
IMG originally reported on the story last week, and it's great to see there are already folks hard at work on a Mac version. You may recall Fruitz of Dojo is the group who have updated ports of Quake, as well as Quake II, for OS X.
If you're feeling particularly brave, you can help Fruitz of Dojo test out the Mac beta of Tenebrae Quake. A forum post to their messageboards notes they have something already put together, but it requires testing, as well as a download of the PC version of Tenebrae in order to run:
The purpose of the public beta is to test the game with NVidia boards. I own only an ATI Radeon/PCI board, which provides the minimum required extensions, but unfortunately there seems to be something wrong with the rendered result [and the orginal author states at his homepage that the Radeon is untested]...If you do want to try out Tenebrae Quake, be sure to grab the PC files as well, and place the tenebrae folder in the same directory as your Quake installation. Reports are that some cards are having graphical issues at this time, but look for a more mature beta in the future.
Any comments on your results with Tenebrae for the developers should be placed in the forum thread already underway. For more information on what Tenebrae is all about, check out its official home page.
