Gaming site Belgisch Gaming Nieuws, in the search for more information on Ion Storm's upcoming title Deus Ex 2: Invisible War, recently conducted an interview with several team members currently working on the project. While the interview rehashes information reported on in the past, it also contains some interesting tidbits concerning new equipment as well as a modification to the skills system used in the original Deus Ex.
One of the new tools remarked on is the stealth microphone, which will allow players to hear conversations from a distance. Though no specifics are given, also mentioned is the fact that many new weapons will be appearing in Deus Ex 2 as well.
The original skill system, which included hacking and lockpicking, has been merged with the biomod system in order to eliminate redundancies:
To get away from hidden math and number balancing and redundancy/overlap (should I increase my Swim Skill or install the Aqualung biomod?), we took all of the skill system functionality and moved it into the biomod system. For example, computer hacking is now done via the Neural Interface Biomod, so instead of increasing your Computer Hacking Skill you just upgrade your Neural Interface Biomod. This allows us to have a more accessible, unified system. The rest of the interview covers topics such as the licensing of the Havok physics engine for use in Deus Ex 2, the possibility of future Deus Ex titles, and the ability to circumvent killing altogether during gameplay. Those interested in more can find the whole interview at Belgisch Gaming Nieuws. While no Mac version of Deus Ex 2 has yet been announced, we'll keep you posted on any new information about a possible port.
