Indie SoundBlaster OS X Drivers?

Accelerate Your Mac recently posted a very interesting piece of news concerning OS X drivers for Creative Labs' audio card, the SoundBlaster Live!. According to a post in their forums, an effort independent of Creative itself is underway to get this card working in OS X. You may remember the long delay in getting an OS 9 driver update, and the fact that the card is currently unsupposted in Apple's latest operating system.
Brian "CreativeOne" Sounder, an employee of Creative Labs, is overseeing the effort in his non-work time, and expects at least minimal support soon. He notes they are already getting low latency (essentially the lower the latency, the faster the card can talk to the OS) with OS X, and their first goal is to have basic input and output working soon:
When we get the basic I/O working, you will be able to start using the card again. Many of the advanced features will be added over time. One of my goals is to add an auto update feature to the software like Apple's Software Update. Hopefully this will make it easier to pull in new features, as they become available.Check out the report at XLR8 now, and stay tuned for any new information on OS X drivers in the near future.
