Harbinger a Possibility for the Mac?
6:00 AM | Daniel Krechmer | Comment on this story

Silverback, the developer of the game Harbinger, while at E3 talked about their desire to port this future PC release to the Mac side. Even on their web-site is the mention of a possibility for this port. Curious, we recently corresponded with both Silverback and their publisher Dreamcatcher Interactive to see if things had moved forward. Here's what Andy Muir, Lead Programmer at Silverback, had to say:

I really don't know what Dreamcatcher's plans for the Macintosh are. From our end, we really want to bring Harbinger to the Mac. We have a really strong Mac programmer on staff, and the game has been designed and coded with a future Mac port in mind. That said: Dreamcatcher owns the rights to Harbinger, and the final call is theirs to make. The only thing I can promise is that we will do everything we can as developers to make Mac Harbinger happen.
Recently Dreamcatcher announced two new games coming to the Mac, indicating their continued support for our beloved platform. When asked about Harbinger, Tara Reid of Dreamcatcher Interactive said they were still publishing on the PC side in November, but "as for the Mac platform, there are no plans for that at this time."

Harbinger, an action/RPG with three character classes (a la Diablo), is set in a science fiction setting with a non-linear story. Here's the set-up from Silverback's web-site:

The skies darken as Harbinger enters a solar system, dwarfing planets and leaving devastation in its wake. Entire civilizations are cleansed, planets eliminated. The majority of the survivors fill the ship’s work camps. Those less fortunate are released to the laboratories where vicious experiments eventually rid them of their sanity. But a few have escaped and formed an underground society deep within the forgotten levels of the behemoth. Equipped only with what they can scavenge, the denizens of the wastelands must resist the relentless patrols sent for them. A ship this size has many places to hide and much technology to exploit. The rest is up to you…
We'll keep tabs on this and hope that plans crystalize, as Harbinger sounds like quite a bit of fun.
