Harpoon 3 Updates 6:00 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story
Jesse Spears, maintainer of Harpoon 3, has recently made updates to both the OS 9 and OS X versions of his naval warfare simulation title. The OS 9 update in particular is classified as a major update, and improves drawing speed and appearance by fixing a long-standing bug: It's a bit embarrassing, but I seemed to have turned off the Offscreen Drawing by accidentally removing the code that set the sDebugDrawing variable to false. So, it was no longer being set to anything in particular, and was apparently defaulting to true. This caused all line draws to the Map windows to be drawn directly to screen. This caused a very annoying "blink" or "flash", and really slowed down drawing dramatically. I'm not sure how long it's been broken, but once someone reported it as a bug, several Mac users on the Harpoon3 Discussion list mentioned that they thought that was how it was supposed to be (because it had always been that way since they had begun playing :P ). The OS X version has also been patched so that it now functions under 10.1.5.Both versions have been brought up to version 3.4.14.1 with the latest updates. Those wishing to download the updates or find more information on Harpoon 3 can find all at the official Harpoon 3 website. Those who wish to check out the latest demo can find it at MacGameFiles.
