Loren Petrich of the Marathon Open Source project released yesterday a new build of Aleph One, the updated engine for Bungie's classic first-person shooter, featuring such modern improvements as OpenGL acceleration, high-resolution textures, scripting support via a Marathon Markup Language (MML), and now, animated 3D models:

- The MML for doing that is to create child elements of called with attributes seq (Marathon-engine sequence) and model_seq (model sequence) it maps a Marathon-engine sequence onto a model sequence.
- The sound and timing info is still in the shapes file; each model frame is associated with a shapes-file frame (first model - first shapes, etc.).
