Halo Still Mac Bound

When Microsoft, in search of a killer title for their Xbox game console, acquired Bungie Software, many wondered if their much-anticipated Halo would ever see the light of day on another platform. (Bungie first announced Halo on the stage of a Macworld Expo keynote address.) Despite Bungie's post-acquisition announcement that Halo would indeed be released for the Mac and PC (eventually), the Internet has remained flooded with rumors, musings, and flat-out statements that Halo would stay in the iron grip of Xbox.

Voodoo Extreme has noted a recent post by Bungie's Matt Soell putting these rumors and "confirmed reports" to rest. Simply put, he reiterates that there will be both a Mac and a PC version of Halo, and that any news heard to the contrary is grossly erroneous:

We still plan to do a Mac and PC version of Halo, but there are a lot of questions that must be answered before we can make the Mac/PC versions happen. It's like driving across town to a friend's house. You could take the highway, but it's rush hour; maybe it would be better to take side streets? Do you have enough gas for the trip, or do you need to make a side trip to a gas station? Can you park on his street for free or do you need to bring cash for a parking garage? These are all important questions that you'll need to answer before you start the trip, and will certainly affect the trip itself - but they don't affect the destination.

I have asked many questions about the Mac/PC versions in recent days, because I want to know what's going on so I can get the "I have confirmation it's never coming" wankers off the community's back. I have asked people who are in the best position to know what's going on, like Alex and Jason. They don't have answers to all the questions yet, and they don't want to say anything until all the ducks are in a row, but they know what they have to do. If pressed to choose between an "anonymous source" referenced by some random guy on a web forum, and two real people with names who have confided Bungie secrets to me for years, I'll pick the latter. And I cheerfully invite the anonymous sources, if they actually exist, to come on over to Bungie HQ and chat with Alex and Jason and myself so we can eliminate the communication breakdown.

For all those fearing that Halo would never grace the screens of your Macs, fear not. A release date has yet to be determined, but we can rest assured that Halo will happen.
