Inside Mac Games Introduces the "MacGames CD"

Inside Mac Games began as a floppy disk sent first-class mail back in 1993; yes, 1.4 megs. In 1995 the floppy disk was replaced by a CD-ROM version. The impact of this change was dramatic: our subscriptions skyrocketed and it allowed us to grow as a company. A year later we successfully launched the Inside Mac Games web site and since then the web site has grown by leaps and bounds. In 2000 we also launched an extremely popular download site, MacGameFiles.com, and also launched the IMG Network, featuring some of the finest Mac game-related content on the Internet.

As the IMG web site began to grow beyond our wildest imagination, we started to run into a problem. The IMG web site began competing with the CD-ROM magazine. At first we tried to hold off publishing articles on the IMG web site until they appeared on the CD-ROM magazine. The end result, however, was that by the time the reviews and features were finally published on the web site, months and months had gone by from the games' actual release dates. In order to compete with the other gaming web sites and to provide timely news, previews, reviews and more, we had to change our strategy. Slowly but surely we began to improve the timeliness of the articles on the web site by publishing them as soon as they were ready. And with that, the IMG web site began to grow and grow.

While the popularity of the CD-ROM magazine continued at a steady pace, it was obvious we need to do something. After much deliberation, we’ve decided to discontinue publishing the CD-ROM magazine. The doesn’t mean, however, that we will discontinue publishing on CD.

Today we’re introducing the MacGames CD, a brand new subscription-based CD-ROM service delivered 8 times a year (every six weeks). What is it? In short, it’s an exciting CD-ROM that will feature the best in Macintosh game demos, shareware, updates, add-ons, trailers, cheaters, and much more. And for those who don’t frequent the IMG web site, the MacGames CD will feature select previews, reviews, and features from our content.

A subscription to the MacGames CD doesn’t stop with just the CD’s you’ll be receiving. In addition, new subscribers and renewals will receive a free registration to Game Doctor, specials discounts on Macintosh games via a web page created just for subscribers, and a free copy of either GraphSim’s Descent 3 or MacPlay’s Sin as a bonus (all you pay is for the shipping and handling).

So what will be included on the MacGames CD? Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect each issue:

Demos: The hottest new demos. Each CD-ROM will feature great new demos from the leading Mac game publishers. With some of these demos now beginning to top 60-80 MB, this is a vital resource for those with limited bandwidth.

Shareware and Freeware: Some of the hottest games out there are shareware and freeware games. Each MacGames CD will feature dozens of high quality games for you to try out and register.

Updates: Included in each CD will the latest patches, bug fixes, and updates to keep your current games up-to-date. Some of these patches are monster downloads as well!

Add-ons: MacGames CD’s will include some of the hottest maps, mods, scenario packs, and more. For example, the first CD includes the gigantic Strike Force 1.60 mod that weighs in at nearly 300 MB! We’ll be included mods and maps from Unreal Tournament, The Sims, Deus Ex, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2, and much more!

Trailers: Great trailers of upcoming games.

And More: System updates, game tools, editors, emulators, and more.

IMG: Each CD-ROM will feature the best of the Inside Mac Games web site with hot previews, great reviews, and cool features.
So what happens to current IMG subscribers? Current IMG subscribers will automatically be transferred to the MacGames CD subscription. However, if you are a current IMG subscriber, you can renew your subscription right now to take advantage of the Descent 3/Sin/Game Doctor offer.

In the past few weeks we’ve been working hard on making the MacGames CD for Macintosh gamers and we’re extremely excited about it. While we’re saddened that after 6 years of publishing the IMG CD-ROM magazine we have to shut it down, we think the MacGames CD will provide our customers with a fantastic product with content specifically tailored for Mac gamers delivered in a timely fashion.

So why should you subscribe to the MacGames CD? In addition to getting a jam-packed CD full of goodies, you’ll be getting great discounts from Mac game stores and Mac game publishers, a free registration to Game Doctor, and a free copy of Descent 3 or Sin. In addition, your subscription will help support Inside Mac Games, MacGameFiles.com and all of our network sites.

Subscriptions to the MacGames CD start at just $29 with the first CD shipping on July 15th (it just went to duplication) so be sure to subscribe today. For more information and to subscribe, visit the IMG web store.
