Our affiliate site Mac Baldur is reporting version 2 of MacBGEditor, a java-based character editor for the RPG Baldur's Gate is now in testing. Iinstead of a mere character editor, this free utility is now a full saved-game editor. Future revisions will also bring other features like item modification as well. Here's a clip with its status:
MacBGEditor v2.0b1 is ready for beta testing. There is one big change and a few minor ones. The big change is that it is a saved game editor instead of a character editor. Just go to the saved game folder of your choice, open the BALDUR.GAM file and edit the sameIf you'd like, you can download version 1.0.1 of the program now to tweak your BG characters. Macgamefiles will have the new version up as soon as it's available to the general public. There is also yet no word on possible support for Baldur's Gate 2, the game which MacPlay has just announced will be making an appearance at this July's Macworld New York Expo. We'll bring you more on that once this title gets closer to release.

way the old editor worked. The smaller changes are:
Open file dialog box
Animation selection for character (Wyverns and Ogre Mages are cool)
Character name display (but not editable yet)
I only have about 50 of the 100+ animations because I have to handcode two lines for each one unlike the PC editors who can just read/parse the ANIMATE.IDS file which isn't on the Mac version. I had to grab it off my friends PC Baldur's gate.
I'm working on v3.0 with inventory and spell editing but it will be awhile because I have to rip the guts out and start fresh. But I have some good ideas thanks to the source code from NearInfinity and GateKeeper.
