Raven Software's James Monroe has updated his .plan with word on a patch for their Star Trek FPS, Elite Force. The purpose of such an update would be to merge some of the later Quake III Arena point release updates with the full Elite Force code base, as the games share the same engine. This will mainly affect the multiplayer HoloMatch mode, but here's more explanation from Monroe:

re: HM Patch 1.20

i wish i had more time to merge in MORE updates... but as it is i barely had enough time to get in some of the much needed fixes.

what i did fix is the pure authentication disconnect issue. that was my main objective and i got it done. we also got a lot of memory saving enhancements and unlimited sound loading. (sounds are no longer reloaded each level so map-to-map might be a tiny bit faster now).

the menu no longer precaches all the weapon models at startup (you can if you want by setting ui_precacheweapons 1) so that loads a bit faster as well. there is now a console cmd to ShowIP and Remote server info, and the scoreboard now tells you the gametypes. Also, per Mr. Allan's request, i defaulted a bunch of game vars to be included in the ServerInfo request.

Of course, since the patch isn't likely to work with the Mac version of Elite Force (coming soon to OS X), we decided to shoot a question over to Westlake Interactive about the possibility of a Mac update as well. The main programmer for the original title was Duane Johnson, who is now working for MacPlay, so we were also curious to see who might undertake the effort. Here's a quick response from president Mark Adams:
If we do a patch, it would be done by current Westlake employees. Its not
covered under the contract but since EF hasn't been patched a lot we'd
probably look at it and see how bad it is before deciding. We haven't seen
the new patch code yet.
Thanks to Mark for his help on the matter, and we'll keep you posted on any new word about the patch. Be on the lookout as Aspyr should release a new version of Elite Force for OS X ported by Omni Group in the near future. Also be sure to check out Aspyr's new special pricing of only $19.95 for Elite Force at their online store, it will only last through the weekend.
