The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences has recently awarded the title of Game of the Year to Blizzard's own Diablo II. For those unfamiliar with the title, Diablo II is an isometric RPG that offers a massive RPG world with online capabilities and potentially endless quests. Other finalists for this category included Age of Empires II, Baldur's Gate II, and Deus Ex.
The AIAS, founded in 1996, is a non-profit organization which is dedicated to the recognition and advancement of the interactive arts. As quoted from their website, their mission goals are as follows:
- Promote and advance common interests in the worldwide interactive community.
- Recognize outstanding achievement in interactive content and the interactive
community.
- Conduct an annual awards show and enhance the image and awareness of the
interactive arts and sciences.
The Board of Directors includes people from prestigious companies such as Infogrames, Electronic Arts, and Microsoft.
