BioShock: Infinite Reviewed

Mac|Life has posted a new review of BioShock Infinite, the recently released Mac version of Irrational Games' epic shooter. Brought to the Mac by Aspyr Media, BioShock Infinite introduces an "entirely new narrative experience that lifts players out of the familiar confines of Rapture and rockets them to Columbia, an immense city in the sky."

The real centerpiece here is Columbia itself a seemingly gleaming, retro-futuristic utopia that's quickly unmasked as a rotten, racist dictatorship built on little more than jingoistic zealotry and the labor of a working class kept in slave-like conditions. Where earlier Bioshocks took us to Rapture, the undersea aftermath of a similar failed experiment, Columbia is a powder keg rigged to blow and Elizabeth just might be the match that lights it.

Columbia and the story that unfolds within it are fascinating, but Infinite's action is no slouch either and when you're not scrounging for ammo, cash, and other hidden goodies in every trash can and crate you see, it delivers plenty of opportunities to trade shots with Columbia's cops and soldiers. Like earlier Bioshocks, Infinite lets you wreak havoc with a variety of guns and bizarre superpowers (here called Vigors instead of Plasmids) that can unleash angry crows, explosive fireballs, green phantoms that force enemies to fight for you, and more.
