Inside Mac Games has posted a new review of Feral Interactive's Rome Total War: Gold Edition. In the game players take charge of one of three Roman families with the goal of increasing their family's power in Rome through diplomacy, economic skill, and war. The Gold Edition includes the original strategy title as well as the Barbarian Invasion expansion.
Here's an excerpt from the review:
On the graphical side, this is one of the best-looking strategy games out. The world map reflects the weather in different portions of the world, faction generals wear different garb depending on the faction and their rank within the faction, and each of your thousands of soldiers is a 3D model that animates independently of their neighbors. On the higher graphics settings you can even zoom in close and watch mini-duels going on throughout a skirmish. The greatest scene to enjoy has to be the sight of hundreds of archers raining fiery death down on densely-packed infantry, though. If you move the camera behind the target unit and rotate the camera to face where they're looking, you get to see a gorgeous rain of arrows that hits individual units and blows them off their feet. It's simply amazing to watch.Read the full review at the link below.
