Rage: Previewing The Wasteland

Incgamers has posted a new preview of Rage, id Software's upcoming combination of first person shooter and action racing title. The preview provides comments from id's Tim Willits about the game's post-apocalyptic setting and action elements.
Arriving in Wellsprings, we ditch the buggy and head straight for the nearest bar, as if Willits was impressively well-versed in the conventions of English tourism. “The bar's a great place to hear about back story”, we're told and we immediately overhear some chatter about the Authority setting the price of water in the wasteland, something the locals don't seem to keen on. It's not long before we become the subject of conversation as a local points out our unwise attire. It seems that wearing an Ark suit is likely to get you kidnapped by the Authority and we're advised to ditch it at our earliest convenience. Having found some alternate clothing, the town alarm sounds and we're told to head to the Wellmaster's office. See, Wellspring is situated on top of a crucial water supply which makes it a strategic target for its enemies and the Wellmaster tells us that a gang know as The Ghost Clan have attacked the water facility and it's our job to get rid of them.Visit the page below to for the full preview.

“Weapons and items are very important to us” Willits explains as we descend into the well facility, spotting the markings of the Ghost Clan on the walls. Picking up a crossbow and electrical bolts, he goes on to reveal that most weapons in the game will support more than one ammo type which he demonstrates by shooting an electrical bolt at the pool of water beneath the feet of two Ghosts. Obviously, they're toasted instantly and we pick up an AK-type assault rifle from the bodies. It's then that we're shown the dynamic hit system in action as Willits reveals the Assault Rifle is one of his favourite weapons in the game as it showcases the hit system beautifully. And we soon disover he's right as he unloads a clip into an oncoming Ghost who reacts appropriately to his wounds, limping and grabbing an arm before he takes a kill shot to the head.
