Inside Mac Games has posted a new review of Civilization IV: Colonization from Firaxis Games and Aspyr Media. Colonization is the fifth addition from Aspyr to the popular Civilization IV franchise and challenges players to lead one of four European nations on a quest to colonize the New World.
Here's an excerpt from the review:
Originally written by Brian Reynolds and published as Sid Meier's Colonization, Civilization IV: Colonization is basically a straight remake of the original game with nicer graphics. There are a few very minor adjustments in play, most notably the acquisition of territory via culture (here called "Liberty Bells") as in Civilization III and later, but saving that, people who played the original game will find this one to be exactly the same. Even the music seems to be the same.Click on the link below to read the full review.
Civilization IV: Colonization Review
This is not a bad thing. The original game was complex and well done, with a strong focus and playing style that made it different from the other Sid Meier games at the time. The mechanics are the same, as is the overall thrust of the game's narrative and play style.
The graphics are of the same quality as Civilization IV - that is, good for a strategy game and (more importantly) very informative. The music is of a very nice quality, and is period appropriate, from the 16th to 19th Century. Even if you don't like classical music, I recommend leaving the music on, as the feel it evokes is very much in keeping with the game.
