North Carolina-based game developer, Icarus Studios has announced the Beta release of its Mac-compatible xScape Platform and the Fallen Earth MMO. The software, compatible with Intel Macs, will allow players to connect to the same live server as PC users with game features optimized for their resident operating system.
The Fallen Earth MMO, co-developed by Icarus Studios and Fallen Earth, is the first title to support the new Mac platform, with plans to release all existing and future titles using xScape. Icarus Studios is utilizing the open source software Wine to launch the Mac-compatible version of the game.
"The Mac OS X compatibility project is something we’ve been excited to see implemented for quite a while," said Brad Lineberger, Chief Technical Officer of Icarus Studios. "Our goal for the project is to allow Mac users to run all of our existing and future games in their native OS."For optimal play, Icarus recommends Mac users have OS X 10.5 Leopard or later, and an Intel-based system with dedicated graphics hardware.
Fallen Earth MMO:
Fallen Earth is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game set on a post-apocalyptic Earth in the year 2156. Within the Grand Canyon Province, an isolated pocket of settlements around one of the world’s most amazing landmarks, you’ll face threats to mankind’s continued survival, including everything from irradiated zones to mutated beasts to raiders. Six factions struggle for dominance in the Province. Over time, you’ll have the chance to pick a side in the effort to hold sway over what remains of the post-Fall world.
