A huge new Quake 3: Arena modification is now available for download called Alliance. The Alliance team actually call it a 'mission pack' instead of just a mod, as it includes three new gametypes, 26 CTF maps, new weapons and effects. At nearly 120MB, it's only for those with beastly internet connections. Immediately following its release this week, a small 2.1 patch was just posted yesterday which fixes some server issues, so be sure to grab that as well. Alliance in it's purest form is enhanced CTF and DM with an offhanded grapple. Weapons, items, health and armor are picked up in the maps the traditional way, by running over them.

Combat is a game which closely resembles Expert Q2. Players spawn with all weapons plus health and ammo regenerate. The weapons balance is slightly different as well as the physics and style of the grappling hook.

Instagib is a game some may already be familiar with. Players spawn with an enhanced rail gun. Health and ammo is not an issue because when you shoot your enemy, they are instantly gibbed (killed big time).

All three game styles in Alliance can be played as CTF, Tourney, FFA or Team DM which really makes a total of 12 possible game types. CTF is our specialty though and we've made most of the following features with CTF in mind.
