ScummVM Hits iPhone, iPod Touch 12:47 PM | Eddie Park | 1 comment
In a small bit of programming wizardry that's sure to make some of Apple's offerings more interesting, the ScummVM engine has been ported over to both the iPhone and iPod touch. Best known as the engine that ran some of LucasArts' best old-school adventure games, ScummVM can now be run in teeny-weeny eyestrain-o-vision for those lucky enough to possess the necessary hardware. Various touch interface mannerisms have been mapped over to make gameplay more intuitive. Players can single tap for left click, hold one finger on the screen and tap with a second for right click, and hold one finger on the screen while swiping up with a second to toggle click and drag mode. A number of games have already been tested and verified, including Day of the Tentacle, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, and Monkey Island 1. A full list of tested games as well as installation instructions can be found at the recently posted iPhone ScummVM wiki. Interested gamers should also note that ScummVM is just a platform - actual game content has to be on hand in order to play it.
