Pirates Of The Caribbean Online Dev Diary

Worthplaying recently posted a new developer's diary detailing the behind the scenes process of creating Disney's upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean Online. A multiplayer online addition to the very successful Pirates franchise, the game will allow players to engage in a variety of piratical activities including sword fights and ship to ship battles.
A lot of time has gone into refining the UI and the gameís control schema. Players donít need to use the TAB key to switch been combat and interface modes anymore, and the mouse-look camera controls are now optional. At the same time we did this we also improved the combat interface. The old radial menu that held each weaponís special skills has been killed and replaced with a simpler interface thatís always on-screen. Itís faster now to get at your special skills and easier to watch your recharge times Ė both of which are good things when youíve got a dozen undead Carrions charging you. Weíve already finished a round of play testing with the new control system, and the results were great -- itís easy to use, and weíre really happy with it.Click over to the site below to read more.

The quest system got a nice polish pass as well, making your encounters with Jack Sparrow, Elizabeth Swann, Joshamee Gibbs and the rest of the gameís personalities and NPCs (Non-Player Characters) more cinematic -- and making the actual interfaces you will use to get quests and manage quests clearer and more intuitive.
