Barefeats Benchmarks New iMac 6:00 AM | Evan Holt | 7 comments
Barefeats has been hard at work putting the brand new Aluminum 2.8GHz iMac against the previous generation of iMacs and the Mac Pro. The results are not complete and the page will be updated as the tests finish, but for now Prey, Quake 4 and Doom 3 have all been benchmarked. The focus behind the tests was to see how well the Radeon HD 2600 Pro graphics chip faired compared to the previous generation GeForce 7600 GT. For gaming on an iMac, the previous generation with the optional GeForce 7600 GT is MUCH faster than the fastest Aluminum iMac. Of course, for hard core Mac gamers, the Mac Pro with the Radeon X1900 XT is the ultimate -- for now. For the full results that will be updated as the tests complete, follow the link below. CPU crunching results using Photoshop CS3, Aperture, Motion, and FCP Studio's Compressor will be added as well.
