Many of the developers of Planewalker Games' upcoming RPG, The Broken Hourglass, started as NPC character modders, back when unraveling the technology behind a new character required months of research and the production of dedicated software tools. In this week's update to the Broken Hourglass site, Planewalker demonstrates how the game's WeiNGINE engine makes it possible for new joinable characters to be created in just a few lines of scripting with a simple text editor.
A variety of constraints force the developers of a party-based RPG to make certain difficult choices about the number and type of characters available as joinable NPCs. No matter the number (In The Broken Hourglass, we offer nine), some enterprising players will decide that a tenth character would really fit the bill. Adding a character to the game capable of joining the party requires very little in the way of extra preparation-at the most basic level, joining the party requires just a short, simple dialogue script action.To read the rest head over to the site below.
