RPG Vault has posted an interview with Disney's Mike Goslin about the upcoming MMORPG Pirates of the Caribbean Online. The interview focuses on the features the new online game will offer to fans of the pirate saga. Once released PotC will include ship to ship combat, sword battles, and a variety of pirate themed activities.
Jonric: How will the combat system function? What overall goals did you set in this area? To what extent will PvP be possible? Check out the full interview at the link below.
RPG Vault: Pirates of the Caribbean Online Interview
Mike Goslin: The combat system is action-based. If you fight with a cutlass, you can chain a sequence of increasingly damaging cutlass moves together by timing your swings. To fight with a pistol, you must aim at your target. The voodoo doll weapon must first be "attuned" to a target by striking them with it, but once attuned you can run away and attack that target from a distance by poking the doll or setting it on fire.
We decided that for our audience it was important for the combat system to feel action-oriented. We have a variety of PvP options for individuals or crews who want to challenge each other.
Jonric: How about ship to ship combat? Will it be advantageous to have a crew of players? What types of vessels will be available?
Mike Goslin: Ship combat between consenting players is available through the PvP system, and there will be plenty of Navy, East India Company and skeleton ships around to fight as well. Players can blast away from a distance or get in close to ram or board another ship.
We'll have a range of ships available with different attributes of speed, firepower and carrying capacity. It will always be better to have a crew manning the cannons. Ships are upgradeable but won't be customizable at launch.
