Red Sweater Software has announced the release of Black Ink for OS X, an application the company describes as "premium crossword solving software." The program makes it easy for users to download and solve free online puzzles from sources such as The New York Times and Wall Street Journal. Puzzles can be solved either on the computer or printed out for those who prefer pencil and paper.
Black Ink was developed by Red Sweater Software after acquiring MacXword from Stephan Cleaves in January, 2007. Cleaves developed and published the software under the Advenio brand with business partner Michael Dupuis, where it was widely acknowledged as the leading crossword application for Mac OS X. Black Ink is a Universal Binary application and sells for $24.95. It requires a Mac running OS X 10.4. The program can be downloaded and used for free during the 30-day full featured evaluation period. Existing customers of MacXword are eligible for an upgrade discount.
"From the new name to the new functionality and redressing of existing features, everything Daniel has done with Black Ink has impressed me," said Stephan Cleaves, founder of Yellow Camp Software . "Veteran and new users alike are in for a treat with this new version of the premier crossword solving application for the Mac."
"I've been solving crosswords since I was a kid, all through college, and as a much needed break in my professional life," said Daniel Jalkut, founder of Red Sweater Software. "MacXword was the best application anywhere for solving crosswords, which is why I was so excited to acquire it and make it even better."
Black Ink connects users with the puzzles they are passionate about. Download new puzzles from the Internet, solve them with an advanced on-screen editor, or print them out for the long weekend away from the office. Black Ink covers all of the puzzle-solver's needs.
