Myst Online: Uru Live has been announced as coming to the Mac platform. Currently in development by Cyan Worlds, CEO Rand Miller notes that "The Mac community has always been huge supporters of the Myst franchise and we’re thrilled that we will soon be able to invite them to the newest Myst experience."
The Myst Online world is being built with the idea of creating a perpetually growing experience that allows for constant exploration. In keeping with the Myst mythos, a storyline stemming from the previous games is also in place:
The "Myst Online: Uru Live" preview storyline continues to build with last week’s introduction of Cate Alexander. Cate’s appearance has had a significant effect on the D’ni Restoration Council (DRC) and the cavern restoration effort as a whole, as evidenced by the recent opening of several city areas. That pattern continues with the opening of more city areas, including the Great Zero, and the restoration of an all-new Age, which explorers can visit for the first time ever.Myst Online will be arriving to the Mac courtesy of TransGaming's Cider, with their CEO Vikas Gupta saying that this is just the first of many Mac games he hopes to bring to the community. In addition, Cyan has partnered with the broadband entertainment network GameTap, which is currently offering signups for the Mac beta test. Players interested in participating in the Mac beta program (Intel Mac users only) should visit www.GameTap.com/mystonline for sign-up information.
