Pangea Software has re-released Firefall as freeware. Originally released in 1993, the Centipede inspired arcade shooter gives players the task of clearing underground tunnels of ferocious man eating Fireworms.
Deep within the nuclear ground Fireworms breed. They soak up minerals that are necessary for the survival of the human race. Your job is to rid the tunnels of these ferocious Fireworms. The Fireworms creep and crawl through the mineral field searching for humans to feed on. But they are blind, and, while they cannot see you, they will eat you if they run into you! As you blast your way through each tunnel you'll clear our mineral barriers. Occasionally, a mineral barrier will yield a vital ore that will activate special guns on your ship. The Fireworms have friends, so watch out for their allies.Firefall will run on any PowerPC Mac running OS 9, and according to Pangea "may" run under Classic in OS X. Those using OS X machines might want to consider trying the updated Firefall soon to be available in Pangea Arcade.
