Over the last few days Blizzard Entertainment has offered several World of Warcraft related announcements on the official site. One of the more interesting announcements is the introduction of parental control tools, perhaps as response to growing concern over online addiction. Parents will now be able to determine when a WoW account is accessible.
We are proud to unveil our new parental control system for World of Warcraft, which allows account owners to create play schedules for their accounts. With the parental control system, you can determine when your World of Warcraft account is accessible. This system can be used, for example, to ensure that your children only play during predetermined hours, such as after homework is done or on weekends. To grow the anticipation for the upcoming release of the 1.9 patch Blizzard has released new details on The War of the Shifting Sands in the form of a brief history. New screenshots and wallpaper for The Gate of Ahn'Qiraj are also available, as are screens of new armor models for all nine classes.
In related news, those who enjoy the music of WoW may get the chance to hear it performed live next year. Blizzard has agreed to allow the game music to be featured as part of "Play! A Video Game Symphony" which will begin in North America in the spring of 2006 and tour through Europe, Asia, South America, Austrailia, and New Zealand.
Finally, Blizzard has announced the winners of the official BlizzCon World of Warcraft Movie Competition. Winners included Rise of the Living Dead III and Wish Upon a Paladin.
The movies can be found at the link below, along with information for the previous announcements.
