If you've ever thought it would be fun to see Mario or Link running across your iPod screen then the efforts of a few dedicated individuals might bring your fevered dreams to life. According to the The Unofficial Apple Weblog, some daring hackers have made use of the open source iPod Linux Project to run a Linux based Gameboy emulator on the iPod.

Although the emulator isn't yet available, gameplay movies for Legend of Zelda and Mario can be found on the ipodlinux.org forums. TUAW reports that the intrepid folks behind this mad scheme have Mario running at "close to full speed."
