Gamecloud has posted an interview with Destineer's Peter Tamte. The interview mainly covers Destineer's new relationship with Q-Tel, a private venture group funded by the Central Intelligence Agency.
Here's a clip from the interview:
Gamecloud - First, how did the In-Q-Tel deal come about? To check out the entire interview, follow the link below.
Peter Tamte - A mixture of two things happened simultaneously — In-Q-Tel looked at how our work was being used by the Marine Corps and they saw the capabilities of our technology in some magazine articles. They then expressed to us their interest in working with us, and we became so interested in each other that they took an equity stake in the company. They are an amazingly capable organization, and we’re thrilled to be working with them.
Gamecloud - Is this In-Q-Tel's first entry into the game-simulation market and if so why do they wish to enter into that market?
Peter Tamte - As far as I know, this is the first time In-Q-Tel has invested in a games content company. Destineer is unique in that we use the technologies we create for our commercial games to build highly realistic environments that can be used by government organizations for training. For example, since live-fire exercises are extremely expensive and dangerous, the Marine Corps uses Destineer’s training simulations to augment classroom instruction and live-fire exercises.
