Gamespy has released a preview for Quake IV. The preview features the new plot, the new setting, and what you can expect in the gameplay. There are some spoilers on the second page, so you might want to skip past it.
As Kane moved indoors and started fighting his way down darkened corridors, it was hard not to be reminded of DOOM 3. With dramatic lighting and shadows and inhuman-looking Strogg enemies teleporting in, you couldn't really blame anyone for comparing the two games. (We forgot to ask about the flashlight.) While there is no official word on a Mac version of Quake IV yet, all of the other games in the series have made it to the platform (including the Doom 3 engine this is based upon), so we're optimistic about the possibilities of getting it on the platform. The indoor combat made up only one part of the various demos, however. Eventually, the combat moved outdoors, and Kane's fight continued through trenches as airships soared overhead, is if depicting some 22nd-century version of D-Day. In a departure from earlier Quake games, it seemed Kane ran into friendly soldiers at every turn, offering a few words and keeping him moving in the right direction.
