GamesIndustry.biz has posted the first part of an interview with two key personnel at Blizzard. Creative Director Chris Metzen and VP of Business Operations Paul Sams answer a variety of questions involving various aspects of Blizzard as a company, including its strategies and history.
The first part of the interview asks some tough questions, including how the leaving of several key individuals in the past have affected the company.
The people that are running the company, as an example... The person with the shortest amount of tenure has, I think, seven or eight years. Two of the three people that are leading the company are founders, and the other two - Chris and I - both have over ten years. So we've been with the company for a long time, the core leadership still remains, and many of the people that have helped create these worlds, and helped create the visuals associated with these worlds, are still there. The bulk of the first part of the interview focuses on World of Warcraft, with emphasis on its development. Metzen notes, in one example, that it was a first for Blizzard to develop a game that has no development end. Sams also discusses the business end, including the staffing difficulties and task assignments.
