Team 17 Talks Worms

Industry website GamesIndustry.biz has posted an interview with UK game developer Team 17's managing director Martyn Brown. Team 17 recently announced the newest title in its popular Worms franchise, Worms 4: Mayhem, to be published in the UK by Codemasters. Brown talks about the history of Team 17, the games that they have published in the past, including Worms and its sequels, and aspects of the gaming industry in general.
Brown had this to say when asked if there is still room in today's gaming marketplace for modern 2D games.
I'm sure there is still a place for 2d games. I think publishers have to get over the thought that gamers (and the mass market) see them as "old fashioned". I think anyone who's played Advance Wars will know that 2D games are here to stay. Would being in 3D make any difference? Advance Wars is a great example since it's a 2D, turn-based game (similar in that respect to Worms) and people love it and cherish it. It's a question of content, not dimension, surely.Head over to GamesIndustry.biz to read the rest of their interview with Martyn Brown, and stick with IMG for any new announcements on the Worms front.

However, a dose of reality is given once more with a cursory check of the game chart. NFSU2, Spider-Man, Shrek, FIFA etc. Until that changes, publishing considerations are likely to continue as they are and anything off this well beaten track will remain a huge unlikely to be green-lighted risk.
