GarageGames has announced the impending start of an open beta test for an upcoming title. Named Zap!, this game was named IGC´04 Players Choice Winner and features vector graphics combined with a variety of game influences and types: Zap! - a 2D vector graphics multiplayer team action strategy game that plays like a cross between Robotron and Tribes with the graphical blend of Asteroids and Pac-Man. As a 2D game Zap can be played with keyboard+mouse or (recommended) a dual-analog gamepad. Zap has several game types, including CTF, Zone Control, Retrieve, Soccer, Hunters and Rabbit, and it supports familiar features like hierarchal V-menu chat and recorded voice. The official Zap! homepage will make the beta download available at 2pm PST today. GG also requests that anyone willing to host a server would also be welcome, and that Linux, Win32, and OS X builds will be made available.
