Audio Interview with Myst IV Composer 8:41 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story
XGR has posted an audio file of an interview with music composer Jack Wall. In addition to working on titles such as Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow and Unreal II, he was also the composer for Myst IV, and is currently scoring the soundtrack to the upcoming Xbox title Jade Empire. The interview covers a number of topics, including Wall's creative process in determining what kind of music would be created for Myst IV. One example includes analyzing the story, characters, and artwork of Myst IV, and then seeking out particular sounds that seemed to fit the game. Wall also discusses the creation of music for games in general, including direction and the hiring of recording artists. For Myst IV, both Enya and Peter Gabriel were initially considered. During the actual creation process, Gabriel was shown a number of scenes and was allowed to pick parts he thought he could work with. The interview itself is available as an mp3 file and is currently being hosted by Fileshack.
