European game publishing giant Ubi Soft has announced that the latest addition to the best-selling graphical adventure game franchise of all time - Myst IV: Revelation - has been released.
Developed by the publisher's Montreal studio, the new title further explores the relationship between Atrus, the creator of the game's many different worlds, his sons Sirrus and Achenar, and Atrus' young daughter Yeesha, who goes missing early on in the game. Players are immersed in the legendary series' traditional mix of solving elaborate puzzles while surrounded by lush and visually ornate environments in an attempt to discover what happened to Atrus' daughter.
The new title takes the award-winning series to the next step by bringing the games' usually flat and mostly still images to life by incorporating real-time animations, organic movement, and dynamic lighting effects in the gameplay. The new sequel also features a lush soundtrack from famed composers Jack Wall and Peter Gabriel, who also contributes his vocal talents to the effort.
The game, which ships on a hybrid Mac/PC DVD combo, requires a 700MHz G4 CPU running OS X 10.2.8, and powered by an ATI Radeon 7500 or Nvidia Geforce2 MX or better graphics card and 3 GB of hard drive space. While the full version of the game can be ordered for $39.95 USD from the IMG Store, the 142 MB demo of the title is available for download over at IMG's sister site MacGameFiles.
