Not unexpectantly, Electronics Arts announced yesterday that the opening sales figures for Maxis' long-awaited god game The Sims 2 has broken all internal sales records by selling over one million copies in the first ten days after the game's release, making it the biggest PC launch the publishing company has ever had.
According to Frank Gibeau, senior VP of marketing for EA:
The Sims franchise has become a cultural phenomenon and The Sims 2 is a game that changes the way we think about our industry... The game has sold one million units worldwide in its first ten days at retail - more than fifty percent of those games were sold in Europe. While there has yet to be an official announcement, Maxis' General Manager Neil Young confirmed in an online community chat back in July that a Mac version of the game was on its way. Be sure to check in with IMG for any further announcements on this highly-anticipated title.
