Virtual Programming Launches Pay and Download Service
6:00 AM | Conrad Quilty-Harper | Comment on this story

Virtual Programming has launched a new system of distributing its games. This new approach will use a system of downloads rather than shipping a physical product to the buyer. People who wish to purchase games via a download merely have to select a download option rather than a boxed option when purchasing a game. Upon completion a link will be made available for the game to be downloaded from.

Here's the full news announcement:

Virtual Programming are pleased to announce the launch of our new 'pay and download' service.

Many of our products are now available by direct download to your Mac, at a reduced price.

We hope this will enable our customers to take advantage of our new releases even quicker.

You can order the product in the normal manner, but simply select the Download option rather than Box Product. Your order will be processed and upon successful completion a download link will be made available.
You will also receive an email receipt which will include any product registration codes required.

This approach to distributing commercial games has several examples on the PC side, Steam being the most publicized example; this system is run by Valve and enables players to download current and upcoming games through a software interface. Hopefully Virtual Programming's introduction of game downloads to the Mac market will spread to other Mac game publishers/distributors.

The news announcement is available at the link below.
