UT2004 Voice Over IP Experimental Patch Released

Epic Games' multi-platform programmer and all-around good guy Ryan Gordon has posted a new Voice over IP patch for Unreal Tournament 2004.
The experimental patch, which wasn't included in the recently released 3323 Mac update, implements the audio capture code included in Apple's OpenAL libraries, allowing competing players to communicate verbally to each other during intense online matches. From Gordon's .plan file:
I implemented ALC_EXT_capture in Apple's OpenAL, so you can use UT2004's VoIP feature with their nice surround sound.Head over to Gordon's .plan file to check out the status updates on all the projects currently under his stewardship, and to download the patch for yourselves. Gamers beware, however: this patch is an experimental piece of code which doesn't include an installer, and has the potential of undermining your UT2k4 installation.

The 3323 patch didn't ship with this, since there were some crashes in their implementation (the nasty "this happens after about 90 minutes of playing" type that are a pain to track down). We'll get this sorted out and eventually ship a patch that includes this.
