Shadowrun: Dragonfall Director's Cut Details Revealed
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Harebrained Schemes has released a new informational update for Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut, the stand-alone release of the RPG expansion. The Director's Cut will be available September 18 and will include new features, missions, and art. It will also be free to all original Kickstarter backers and owners of Dragonfall.

I own the DLC version of Dragonfall, do I have to buy the Director’s Cut to play the new content?

If you purchased the DLC version through a major digital retailer, you’ll receive the Director’s Cut for free! Kickstarter backers that claimed their DLC code will also be given the Director’s Cut! It will show up as a separate title in your Steam, Humble, or GOG libraries on launch day - look for “Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director’s Cut”. If you have issues finding it in your library, contact the store for help.

Is there any possibility of a Director’s Cut for Dead Man’s Switch?

Currently, we don’t have plans for a DMS Director’s Cut. However, we've released several updates to DMS over the course of the last year, including a major update with the new save game functionality when Dragonfall first launched. A few weeks ago, we pushed another DMS patch which includes some balance changes to key parts of the game. While it’s not a Director’s Cut, we hope those changes will provide a better experience for everyone.

Does HBS have plans to create another standalone campaign?

We would love to - but we don’t have any firm plans for one yet. To be honest, we've been heads down on the Director's Cut and are still exploring what to work on next. But rest assured, if we start on a new Shadowrun title, you guys will be the first to know!

Sanctum 2 Brings The Battle To Macs
6:00 AM | IMG News | Comment on this story

Coffee Stain Studios' Sanctum 2 has made its way to Mac and Linux gamers. Like the original the title offers a unique combination of first person shooter and tower defense, giving players the chance to directly join the action. Among other things Sanctum 2 features a new and extensive character customization system for the four playable character classes.

Sanctum 2 is the sequel to the world’s first Tower Defense/FPS hybrid game! Pick from four unique character classes and take up the mission of protecting the Cores from hordes of mysterious aliens. In Sanctum 2 you play your character exactly the way you want through the new and extensive customization system. Pick your own loadout of towers, weapons and perks, and pick well, because you are humanity’s last defense against the hordes set out to destroy it.

Sanctum 2 is not just a simple upgrade of the Steam hit that was Sanctum 1, it’s a new game completely rebuilt from the ground up using community feedback and outside-of-the-box indie game design to really push the bar of what an indie-studio can do.

Intense action – Deep strategy

In Sanctum 2, you will have to utilize elements of multiple gameplay genres to succeed. Build towers and walls during the building phase before the enemies attack, then jump into the fray and help your towers blast everything to pieces in FPS-mode. You can progress through the single player campaign yourself, or play up to 4-player co-op with your friends to discover the secrets of the planet LOEK III and why the aliens are so set on destroying the Cores you are sworn to protect.

FEATURES:

  • Tower defense – Design complex mazes and build powerful towers to stop the enemies from destroying the Core
  • First Person Shooter – Don’t just sit back and watch, jump into the action yourself!
  • 4 playable character classes – Each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses.
  • Vast customization system – pick perks, or make the game crazy hard by adding Feats of Strength.
  • In-game visual novel – Unlock a comic-book page for every map you beat to discover the secrets of LOEK III
  • Progression system – Increase your rank and unlock new weapons, towers and perks!
  • 4 player co-op – Progress through the storyline yourself or team up with other players whenever you want!

IMG Reviews Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Inside Mac Games' Ted Bade has posted a new review of Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure from Big Finish Games. In the game players take the role of a private investigator in a post-apocalyptic San Francisco, once again searching for clues, solving puzzles, and investigating crimes.

Here's an excerpt:

The video interactions and interviews that were created for this game are top notch full screen, and well done. Real people play the parts in these videos. In some cases, the video is simply a short movie providing information as you watch Tex interact with the character. Other times, Tex needs to ask specific questions. Here you as the player need to choose one of three different responses available to Tex. Each response is given a brief description that hints more at what Tex’s attitude will be than what he will say. When you select one, the Tex character is shown asking his question along with the response.

It is likely that your selection of Tex’s replies direct some future actions of how the game progresses and maybe how he gains certain pieces of information. In at least two situations, I chose to stay true to Tex’s current girlfriend, rather then to follow the floozie spy in one case or to stay true to a previous girlfriend Tex thinks might still be alive after being attacked and “killed” 7 years ago. Doing this was followed by Tex gaining some useful information from his current girlfriend, and in one case, a rather interesting although glossed over night….

Diablo III Seasons Explained
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 1 comment

Blizzard Entertainment recently posted a new preview of the upcoming 2.1.0 patch for its fantasy action RPG, Diablo III. The update will include a variety of changes and additions including Seasons, a new competitive gameplay mode which challenges players to create a new hero and race against other players to complete challenges and acquire new exclusive loot.

Seasons - How Do They Work?

So, you've logged in and you're ready to create your very first Seasonal hero. Where do you begin?

Just like any new character, your first Seasonal hero will start their journey in the hero creation menu. Select your hero class, gender, and name as usual, then select the "Seasons" checkbox on the lower left of the screen, and BAM! You'll have a brand new level one nephalem ready for Seasonal action!

You'll be able to create both Hardcore and Normal Seasonal heroes—just check the "Hardcore" box in addition to the Season box if it strikes your fancy.

Seasonal heroes are completely separate from your existing ones. This means they start from scratch, without access to your existing gold, blood shards, shared stash, Paragon levels, Artisan levels, crafting patterns, or items. Just as your Normal and Hardcore mode heroes have separately tracked progression, Seasons stand entirely on their own.

After The Zombie Apocalypse Humans Still Can't Get Along
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 1 comment

Soldak Entertainment's Steven Peeler recently posted a new blog about the company's next title. Set in the world of Din's Curse and Depths of Peril the as yet unnamed game will focus on the fight for survival after a zombie apocalypse has brought down civilization. Featuring an isometric viewpoint, the new zombie themed experience will include elements fans of previous titles have come to expect from Soldak.

Unfortunately, everyone else is in the same situation as you and they don't want to starve to death any more than you. With everyone fighting over the limited amount of food left, humans and even some of the more intelligent monster races are forming clans to protect themselves. Some of them are gathering together so that they are strong enough to take what they want from others. It is possible to become allies with other clans, but when they are slowly starving to death, will they betray you?

Even within your own clan it isn't safe. Humans living on the edge are even more unstable than usual. Some people are just bad people and will betray your clan for gold, food, or for no discernible reason. Some will have personality conflicts with others that might lead to fights and maybe even killings. Some might not be happy with their share of supplies and get angry. Two men might like the same female and cause problems. You never quite know how different people thrust into a life and death situation will react, especially over time.
