IMG Reviews Lifeless Planet
2:53 PM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Inside Mac Games' Ted Bade has posted a new review of Lifeless Planet from KISS. The third person action adventure game puts players in the role of an astronaut stranded on a lifeless planet. Players must unravel the mystery of the strange planet and the unusual woman they meet if they hope to survive.

Here's an excerpt:

The game begins with you watching opening sequences as the main character leaves planet Earth heading out to a planet far away from home. The journey takes quite a while, while the character sleeps. When you and your crew arrive at the planet to land, something goes wrong and you crash, although you survive. When you awaken, you find that your crew has left to begin exploration. You head out to follow them, and quickly learn two important things. Although you were sent because the planet was supposed to be full of life, it is now bleak and desolate. Secondly, people from Earth have already settled here, but their settlements underwent some disaster that destroyed them and most of the life on the planet. More and more of the story is revealed as you move across the planet.

Kickstart The Town Of Salem
2:53 PM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

An IMG reader recently emailed us about a new Kickstarter campaign to fund further development of Town of Salem from Blank Media Games. Currently a browser based free to play multiplayer flash game, Town of Salem is described as "all about mind games and understanding the human psyche to get an edge over the other players in the game." It is a digital adaption of the party games Mafia and Werewolf, set in the witch trial era in an alternate universe Salem, MA. Blank Media plans to use Kickstarter funds to create mobile and Steam versions of the game, as well as add more support for non-English speakers.

Town of Salem is a fresh innovation on the classic party games Mafia and Werewolf. It is a game of murder, accusations, deceit and mob hysteria.
Town of Salem takes place in the era of the Salem witch trials in an alternate universe version of Salem, MA.

Mobile, Steam and Localization

Town of Salem is currently operating as a free-to-play browser game. Since the launch of the Alpha version our fans have been clamoring for 3 things:

  • When is the mobile version coming out?
  • When is the Steam version coming out?
  • When will there be support for non-English speaking players?
That is what this Kickstarter is all about. We need help from the community to be able to tackle all of the difficulties and challenges that will come from doing the mobile and Steam ports, as well as the localization support.

About the Game:

Town of Salem is a browser-based game that challenges players on their ability to convincingly lie as well as detect when other players are lying. The game ranges from 7 to 15 players. These players are randomly divided into alignments - Town, Mafia, Serial Killers, Arsonists and Neutrals. If you are a Town member (the good guys) you must track down the Mafia and other villains before they kill you. The catch? You don't know who is a Town member and who is a villain. If you are an evil role, such as a Serial Killer, you secretly murder town members in the veil of night and try to avoid getting caught.

Town of Salem has 29 unique roles ensuring a different experience each time you play. Before a game starts players are put into a lobby where the host can select what roles will be in the game. Players are then assigned roles at random from the list of chosen roles. Players have an in-game role card that explains their roles abilities and alignments.

Mechs & Mercs: Black Talons Faction Trailer Unveiled
2:53 PM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Kasedo Games and Camel 101 has released a "faction featurette marathon" trailer for the upcoming Mechs & Mercs: Black Talons, a new intergalactic real-time tactics game scheduled to be released in the fourth quarter of 2014. Players take command of the Black Talons mercenary company stranded on a planet in the middle of a invasion and forced to fight if they hope to escape.

Take command of the Black Talons company, a fearless mercenary unit currently stationed in the Oberon system providing needed military support in a galaxy torn apart by ruthless dictators and power-hungry warlords. The Black Talons provide everything from specialist squads and supplies, to entire armies, bases – and even powerful mechs of warfare. This comes at a price, of course – but in a universe controlled by the corrupt, is it enough to stand by and watch while great cities burn to the ground and whole civilisations are destroyed all in the name of conquest?

A devastating war has torn the galaxy apart. Dozens of planets and star systems have declared independence or forged new alliances, while governments fall and warlords rise to power. Chaos and corruption are everywhere and so to maintain order and negotiate peace between the ruling factions, private mercenary armies are called to action.

You are commander of the Black Talons company, currently stationed in the Oberon system. After a fierce campaign, the military Tzanar Union has overrun the planet of Genai and blocked all departure from the system: leaving you and the Black Talons stranded. The only means of escape is to help the Genai forces repel the invading army and recapture the planet.

Features of Mechs & Mercs: Black Talons

  • Extensive campaign mode where the actions of the player have a direct impact on the local system’s balance of power
  • Persistent and fully customizable squads
  • Various unit classes with specialized roles and their own distinctive set of weapons, abilities and skill trees
  • 5 worlds with differing environments and weather conditions that directly affect battle
  • Powerful mechs can enter the battlefield and turn the tide of combat
  • Customize and upgrade your base with weapons and infrastructure that will boost squad numbers, teleport soldiers or even bombard the battlefield
  • Faction relations influence a player’s progress throughout the game: either by giving access to unique units or interfering with missions
