6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

11 bit launchpad, publishing arm of 11 bit studios, has announced a September 17 release date for Spacecom. The star fleet command game has a heavy focus on multiplayer and favors those with a grasp of tactics and strategy. Spacecom allows up to six players per campaign.

A strategic-to-the-bone, starfleet command game with a heavy focus on multiplayer. Spacecom is a battle of strategists in which deception, smart movement, and choices to battle decide victory or defeat.

No coincidence, no luck. Spacecom pushes your ability to strategize with a focus on real-time tactics and planning. Use proven maneuvers learned from military legends or devise your own plans. Dominate your enemies in planetary systems with up to six players per campaign. Most of all, you'll need a bright mind, cunning, and sound tactics.

When the war begins, leave the little things behind and dive into austere soundscapes as you immerse yourself in starfleet command. From now on, what matters is your grasp of tactics and strategy, not how fast you can click. Spacecom is about creativity in planning, not complexity of game mechanics.

Ankama Celebrates The 10th Anniversary Of DOFUS
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Ankama is celebrating the 10th anniversary of DOFUS this month. In honor of the MMO's birthday the company is organizing a contest for the occasion, launching a program designed to reward the loyalty of players, and introducing a new challenging game mode.

Launched in September 2004, DOFUS is one of the few massively online role playing games created back then still in operation and still being updated and developed. Today, it has 2.5 million active players each month, spread over 150 countries, and it has been adapted into comic books, an animated TV series, board games… A full-length movie, DOFUS - Book 1: Julith, is also in production.

With ten years of existence and so many fans, Ankama had to elaborate a program rewarding its most loyal players: the veteran rewards, implemented at the end of September. For every year of subscription, the player will get 5 gifts; the system is both retroactive and cumulative. No matter how long and how many times the player has interrupted his subscription, they will still be rewarded. So, some players will receive as many as 50 gifts (such as emotes, sets, petmounts, and pets) this month. More details on the dedicated page.

In addition to the veteran rewards, players will also be able to win items designed specifically for this anniversary via a big contest, taking place from September 11th to October 16th 2014. It will put to the test the knowledge of the players while doing a retrospective of the past ten years with anecdotes and other information, which will all form a timeline.

A new game mode is launched on the Epic Server: death there is permanent when the character dies in a battle against a monster (but not when fighting another player). At the end of September, players will also tread upon a new Divine Dimension, Xelorium, home of the God who controls time. On the menu: new dungeons, new quests, new monsters and new items.

DOFUS has reached a large audience over the past ten years, but Ankama does not intend to stop there. A streaming version of the game is under development. It will be playable by everyone later in September.

Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut Combat Mechanics
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Harebrained Schemes has revealed new details about Combat Mechanics in Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut, the stand-alone release of the RPG expansion. The Director's Cut will be available September 18 and will include new features, missions, and art. It will also be free to all original Kickstarter backers and owners of Dragonfall.

In the Director’s Cut, shooting through medium and heavy cover now reduce your critical hit % to 0 - you’ll always either do 1.0x damage or 0.5x damage. Shooting through Light Cover, you’ll always do 1.0x damage, no more or less. This goes for the enemy’s attacks as well of course, so using cover will become much more important for all involved. If you’re caught out in the open, or you are flanked, the chance to take critical damage is going to increase drastically - you’ll always take 1.0x or greater damage. If you want to dispatch enemies quickly - and safely - you’ll want to flank them, and attack them from behind cover.

Due to this change, melee combat has more risk & reward than before. You’ll do critical damage much more often, since enemies are never in-cover from melee attacks, but you will want to be careful to not end your turn exposed to your foes. Of course, there are magical ways to add cover to an area, or protect yourself. In our internal testing we’ve found these changes to make the combat more tactical, fun, and dynamic. We’re looking forward to seeing what kind of combinations the community comes up with, too.
