Curse Of Naxxramas To Bring New Adventure To Hearthstone
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Blizzard Entertainment recently announced Curse of Naxxramas a single player adventure mode for the Hearthstone online card game. Players of the adventure will have the opportunity to defeat a collection of iconic bosses in an effort to earn new cards for their decks. Curse will also introduce a new game board and nine unique class challenges to conquer. The first of five unique wings in the dungeon adventure will be available free to all players, while the remaining four will require in-game gold or real money to access.

A Necropolis to Die For

The ancient necropolis Naxxramas, a base of operations for the powerful archlich Kel’Thuzad and his plague-bearing undead host, comes to Hearthstone in a single-player Adventure that anyone can undertake. Progress through each of the five unique wings of the dungeon and gain new cards for your Hearthstone collection by defeating the iconic bosses you’ll face along the way: the oversized arachnid Maexxna, the fungal horror Loatheb, and the shambling abomination Patchwerk are just a few of the horrors awaiting you. Each boss has its own unique cards and hero powers at its disposal to challenge even the most seasoned of card-slinging adventurers.

New Cards!

Progressing through Curse of Naxxramas and overcoming the challenges that lurk within will reward you with all-new Hearthstone cards! Once you earn these cards, you can start playing with them in your decks right away. A total of 30 new cards will be added with Curse of Naxxramas.

Peer Into the Plague Quarter

One of the bosses you’ll be pitted against within the Plague Quarter is the devious plague cauldron master Heigan the Unclean. His Eruption spell will put your minion’s dancing skills to the test, and Mindpocalypse will make you think you’ve got the upper hand. Speaking of hands, Heigan definitely never washes his. Gross.

Defeating Heigan will net you a brand new card to add to your collection, and the completion of each wing will reward you with a guaranteed new Legendary card!

All New Game Board!

Curse of Naxxramas will have its own unique game board that you’ll battle on while you’re in the Adventure, complete with brand-new interactive corners. What could possibly lurk within that quivering mass of eggs? Do you really want to find out?

Test Your Might with Class Challenges!

On top of all of that, nine unique Class Challenges lie in wait within Curse of Naxxramas. These challenges put a difficult twist on existing encounters within the adventure and will put your Hearthstone skills with a specific class to the test! If you’re able to overcome the Class Challenges that face you, you’ll be rewarded with new class-specific cards to add to your collection.

Make Tracks to Naxx!

Curse of Naxxramas will open its gates over the course of 5 weeks, opening wing by wing. The first wing of Curse of Naxxramas, The Arachnid Quarter, will be available free for all Hearthstone players. If you wish to venture further into Naxxramas to collect all of the new cards for your collection, each wing besides the Arachnid Quarter can be purchased with in-game gold or real money, whichever you prefer. As each wing is released, the cards available in each wing will also show up in your Arena picks, even if you have not earned them for your personal collection yet.

Beware the Necropolis!

We hope you enjoyed this first look into Curse of Naxxramas: A Hearthstone Adventure. Curse of Naxxramas is planned to release simultaneously for PC, Mac and iPad. A release date will be announced at a later time. We’ll have further details, including pricing and availability, in the future, so please stay tuned!

SteamTRAIN 4.4 Released
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Nostalgic Software has announced the release of SteamTRAIN 4.4. The latest incarnation of the 1800's era steam train simulation adds night lighting on the track-map, improves locomotive smoke, and smooths details with anti-aliasing.

More about SteamTRAIN:

Your train will travel between stations, up and down grades, negotiate curves, switch tracks, and couple/uncouple cars. Simple keyboard/mouse controls include the throttle, boiler pressure, traction sand, air brakes, manual couplers, and track switches. A mixed-weather option includes clear skies, rain, or snow plus day/night -- all in one run. Spectacular crashes possible with full recovery. The Setup Mode allows learning, creative challenges and freelance experiments.

MailTrain Mode offers speed/schedule challenges. Starting from the east or west terminal, your job is to pickup and deliver mail and newspapers to all stations along the route. Your schedule is based on pre-chosen degrees of difficulty: number of cars, weather, steepness of slopes, speed of other trains, consumables, etc. Phantom Express trains appear and vanish several times during a run. High scores are maintained for local competition.

Dispatcher Mode offers hours of real train operation challenges. You select locomotive(s) from the roundhouse at one terminal; assemble the marked cars into a passenger, freight or mixed train; and travel to the opposite terminal picking up and dropping off cars along the way to attain a score. Several options add difficulty such as steep grades, mixed weather, plus number and types of cars. An opposing Robo train launches from the opposite terminal. High scores and settings can be saved.

Download an Intel Mac or Win PC Demo/Update of SteamTRAIN 4.4 @ NostWare.com. Help and Controls files are separate downloads for possible translation. Purchase ST 4.4 for $12 @ KAGI. This is a Free Upgrade for any prior ST 4.x customers.

Control Command Escape Reviews The Last Federation
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Control Command Escape has posted a new review of Arcen Games' The Last Federation. The sci-fi turn-based strategy game features up to 5 factions competing at once, eight unique races, multiple difficulty levels, and a deep simulation of an entire solar system and its billions of inhabitants.

The eight different alien species are all thoroughly distinct; Arcen have managed here to do what so many space-themed 4Xs fail to do correctly. There's the hive-mind race, the utopian society, the robot corporate conglomerate, and the downright weird: space-owls and alien boars. Crucially they way that each interacts with the game world is different. Each has its own system of government, and so you have to approach each one in a different way to get them to do what you want. One race uses a proxy voting system, rendering your credit useless with them; another makes decisions based upon the in-game calendar.
