Tex Murphy Returns On May 22
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Big Finish Games has announced a May 22 release date for Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure, and is now accepting pre-orders. The game is the first installment in the Tex Murphy adventure game series since it was brought back to life in a successful Kickstarter campaign. Players will take the role of the private investigator in a post-apocalyptic San Francisco, once again searching for clues, solving puzzles, and investigating crimes.

In the Tesla Effect, we find Tex Murphy down and out: down on his luck and out with a concussion; but it's not long before his latest case takes him in search of Nikola Tesla's greatest secrets. Will Tex once again overcome the crime-ridden and Mutant-infested streets of San Francisco, a place with radiation levels that make Chernobyl look like the Garden of Eden and enough booze to incapacitate even the most hardened gumshoes? We'll just have to wait and see...

But who IS Tex Murphy? He's the kind of hardboiled, grizzled private eye that can take a punch (or several dozen), hangs out in only the most reputable seedy establishments, needs the support of a good dame (be she real or hologram), has a fedora for every occasion, and ALWAYS has a backup plan (thanks to being a licensed dance instructor):

Tex Murphy is the last of the hard-boiled private detectives living in dystopian post-World War III San Francisco in the 2040s. Tex is an honest and good-natured private investigator with a penchant for bourbon, cigarettes and getting himself into trouble.

Tesla Effect is a mystery 3D adventure game seamlessly blended with the renowned Tex Murphy franchise's renowned full-motion video (FMV) scenes.

Jagged Alliance: Flashback Enters Alpha, Early Access In Q2
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Full Control recently announced that its Kickstarter funded Jagged Alliance: Flashback has entered closed alpha testing, and that the game will be available on Steam Early Access in the second quarter of this year. Flashback is a reboot of the classic Jagged Alliance turn-based tactical action series. Like its predecessors, the game will put players in control of a squad of mercenaries and give them the chance to manage their activities both on and off the field of battle.

“We are happy to announce that Jagged Alliance: Flashback is finally in Alpha, with Steam Early Access close on its heels”, said Thomas Lund, CEO of Full Control. "Fans of the franchise will be excited about the return of the beloved turn-based action of the original game, and we can't wait to get feedback from our Kickstarter backers and the rest of the community when Early Access on Steam begins. So go ahead, talk to us! We want to make this game as great possible for the fans of the franchise, which is also why we have chosen to focus heavily on the modability of the game."

Jagged Alliance: Flashback is now in Closed Alpha and can be accessed by eligible Kickstarter backers. Receiving over $350,000 in funding through crowd-sourcing platform Kickstarter, Jagged Alliance: Flashback has been in development since June 2013 and is due to launch in late 2014.

Additionally, Jagged Alliance: Flashback will launch in Q2 on Steam Early Access for everyone, making the game available to all who like cheesy one-liners and tactical turn-based combat. Developer Full Control seeks to collect early feedback from the community through Steam Early Access to enable all fans of the series to have an active part in the development process. Through the additional funding new features and content can be added to make the game that fans of the franchise have always imagined.

Based in the late-1980’s on the fictional Caribbean Island of San Hermanos, “ The Prince”, the elected president, uses his powerful military forces to stop a rebellious group who are attempting to overthrow him. “The Prince” does not play by the rules and the revolutionaries are powerless against his military forces. The rebel leader gets arrested, and the insurgent army dissolves. Once players arrive on San Hermanos to get the rebel leader out of prison, things take a turn for the worse.

Gameplay features a unique mix of deep turn-based tactics, role-playing and sector management. The Kickstarter campaign, and now the Steam Early Access release, gives fans the opportunity to determine the scope and scale of Jagged Alliance: Flashback by directly influencing the shape of the game and participating during its development.

History of the Jagged Alliance Franchise:
Jagged Alliance was first released in 1994 and is still counted as one the best turn-based strategy games of its time. After the release of the refined Jagged Alliance 2 in 1999 over time the series became a classic never forgotten by its fans. The franchise received a reboot in 2010 with Jagged Alliance – Back in Action, which received mixed reactions from the community and press after its departure from turn-based action gameplay. Full Control plan to reset the franchise with the launch of Jagged Alliance: Flashback through Kickstarter.

About Full Control
Full Control is a small independent studio based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Over the years they have specialized in the genre of turn-based strategy games and have several productions in their portfolio, including the upcoming project, “Jagged Alliance: Flashback” and the recently released, “Space Hulk”, a turn-based videogame adaptation of the hugely popular Warhammer 40k boardgame.

Endless Legend Broken Lords Faction Revealed
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Amplitude Studios has revealed information about the Broken Lords, the third faction in the upcoming new 4X fantasy strategy title, Endless Legend. The game will give players the chance to take control of one of eight civilizations as they explore, conquer, and research their way to supremacy. As with Endless Space, Iceberg Interactive will serve as publisher for the new game.

About the Broken Lords
“The Broken Lords are a faction of knights and town-builders; an aristocratic society that believes in honor, virtue, and justice. To succor the weak, to champion what is just, to root out evil wherever it may lurk - those are the ideals by which these noble warriors would live.

And yet, the Broken Lords are a crippled people that exist only as spirits wrapped in their great suits of Dust-enhanced armor. Other nations view them as monsters, for their race was fading when it discovered a deadly secret - that by consuming the life force of a sentient being they could extend their own life span. This rite of consumption is, obviously, a complete betrayal of their principles and their history. The greatest hope of the Broken Lords, therefore, is to develop magic that will break this curse and allow them to live without destroying others.

Though the question remains, and haunts their thoughts: Even if they did find a cure, would they want to give up this powerful gift? Their codes and morality insist 'yes', but in their hearts it is much less clear...”

Story of Endless Legend:
Another sunrise, another day of toil. Food must be grown, industries built, science and magic advanced, and wealth collected. Urgency drives these simple efforts, however, for your planet holds a history of unexplained apocalypse, and the winter you just survived was the worst on record. A fact that has also been true for the previous five.

As you discover the lost secrets of your world and the mysteries of the legends and ruins that exist as much in reality as in rumor, you will come to see that you are not alone. Other peoples also struggle to survive, to grow, and perhaps even to conquer.

You have a city, a loyal populace, and a few troops; your power and magic should be sufficient to keep them alive. But beyond that, nothing is certain… Where will you go, what will you find, and how will you react? Will your trail be one of roses, or of blood?

Key Features:

  • Explore legendary lands with one of the eight civilizations available both in single and multiplayer, as you adventure through seasons, striving to discover the secrets of Auriga.
  • Expand beyond the unknown and send your heroes in every corner of the world to find mysterious artifacts to equip your troops, and assimilate powerful minor factions which will help you overwhelm your opponents.
  • Exploit every opportunity by researching new technologies and magical powers while collecting Dust, luxuries and strategic resources tradable on the marketplace.
  • Exterminate fools who defy you with a genuine combat system where terrain and your unit abilities are key to take the advantage over the enemy armies.
Endless Legend is scheduled for a Spring 2014 release. Check out the links below for more.
